Likes are a very important part of the Instagram platform and if you have ever used the app you know that you can never get enough of them.  Sometimes your posts don’t receive the appreciation that you think they should, and result in a weak number of likes.  As a business account using Instagram for marketing purposes, it is especially important to maintain a strong number of likes per picture posted.

By following some of these quick tips you will be able to boost your numbers up and get back on track to having a stronger, more impressive Instagram account.

P.S. One of the easiest ways to get more likes is to use the likes for likes method. Read our post on the Likes for Likes Instagram Method if you haven't tried this yet.

Most Popular Types of Photos

Think about it, how many Instagram pictures of food does it take for you to become uninterested?  Maybe you are one of the few – but for most of us we can only take so much.  Overusing Instagram clichés (#tbt, #ootd, pictures of food, etc.) can be detrimental to your overall likes in the long run.

The same goes for business accounts, however, rather than Instagram clichés they simply tend to fall into a repetition of posts.  People can only take so much of the same thing!

So, what should you post?

Let’s take a look at the numbers:

  • Photos with high lightness generate 24% more likes than dark images
  • Photos with a high amount of background space generate 29% more likes than those without
  • Predominantly blue photos generate 24% more likes than photos that are predominantly red
  • Photos with a single dominant color generate 17% more likes than photos with multiple colors
  • Low saturation images generate 18% more likes than those with more vibrant colors
  • Photos with high levels of texture generate 79% more likes than those without

More Methods to Increase Instagram Likes

Captions

One simple way to receive more likes on your photos is to improve your captions.  Believe it or not, these small descriptions of your photos are just as important as the photo itself when it comes to likes.  What you choose to write adds a sense of authenticity, humor, depth, and much more to your photos.  A picture is worth a thousand words, but it doesn’t hurt to add a few more.

It goes without saying, but make sure you also use the right hashtags in your captions. The correct hashtag will ensure that your photos get in front of more people, so they can like and comment on your content. Read our post on how to use Instagram Hashtags here  for more info.

People

Yes, people!  People want to see other people when they go through their Instagram feed, and it has proven to produce more likes than images without.  So as a business displaying your product it would be more beneficial to include a model to display whatever you are advertising.  Whether it is shoes, accessories, toys, or anything; displaying images of people using your products will help you draw in more likes on Instagram.

Timing

In other SNE articles, we discussed the times of day and week that are popular to post on Instagram.  This, on the other hand, regards the kinds of photos and how they relate to current events.  For example, a holiday themed photo would be posted around the corresponding holiday.  Christmas photos should not be posted in mid-July.  This method is not restricted to calendar events, and should be thought about as relevance.  How relevant is this photo to my audience? By finding ways to create relevance, your audience will react with more likes on your post.

Reposting Popular Photos

Another quick way to acquire more likes on Instagram is to simply find the popular photos that are out there and use them (be sure to give credit to whoever posted the photo).  To find a popular photo that is relevant to what you would like to express, search hashtags that relate to your target audience and find a popular photo.  Then post this photo and tag the owner of the photo in the post.

If the owner asks you to remove the photo, however, you must comply.  Make note that this method should be used sparingly.

Multiple Accounts

Another great way to reach a larger audience and collect more likes is to create multiple accounts, each having their own specific interest.  This will help your business cross promote across Instagram, while collecting more likes.  As a broader business using Instagram, you can have a page for separate locations, or even separate product lines.  If you have a location in Pittsburgh and one in Miami, have a Pittsburgh page as well as a Miami page.  Or on the other hand, if you own a apparel brand and sell clothing as well as shoes, make one Instagram page for clothing wear and one for shoes.

With these quick tips, you will be sure to improve your social media presence and ultimately get more likes on your Instagram posts.
